History Quilter Podcast Episode 30 Travels & Grandmother's Quilt Blocks

Happy Friday!

Earlier this week I was away on a little vacation and I had such an enjoyable and meaningful time that I decided to record a podcast about it.  History Quilter Podcast Episode 30 where I talk about Travels and Grandmother's Quilt Blocks is now available on iTunes, Podbean and Stitcher Radio.

 Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, CA.  Had a lovely walk around the grounds.
Tootsie's at The Stanford Barn in Palo Alto, CA.  Delicious breakfast, great atmosphere and very friendly staff.
My Grandmother's Quilt Block.  My Aunt Connie gave me all of the quilt blocks that her mother (my grandmother) was working on before she passed.  I will be making a quilt out of these blocks for my Aunt Connie. There are 15 of these in various prints and colors with about 10 more cut and pinned together.  A huge thank you to Jaye and Nonnie via my Twitter plea last night, who suggested this is an Ohio Star block on point.
 As I was making dinner while recording, here is a photo of what I ended up with:

And just because I can, I am entering in the 4th Annual Good Food Pie Contest to be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at LACMA.  As of right now I have no idea which pie I will enter but I will be highlighting my pie journey here in the next seven weeks.  Hope my guinea pigs are ready for PIE!

    I loved hearing the joy in your voice talking about your wonderful trip to see your family. And how wonderful to find a family connection with quilting. That is very cool to get to piece that quilt for your Aunt and see your Grandmother's work. Did you have a picture of the other quilt piece to share?
    I had a little laugh at one point when I thought you said you went to a topless place. :)
    I can't wait to see your pie recipes. I think it is awesome that you are jumping in to something fun like that contest. Good for you!
    I am still trying to get some more info on that quilt. Would you like me to email you photos of the DWR quilt?

    Sounds like a fun time away - good for you!! Awesome you are able to finish the quilt for your auntie! And dinner - yum.

    It is Auntie Connie, Cousin Sharon and 2nd Cousin Kaylie - just listened to the podcast. We would have gone to Sonoma and the one in Healdsburg if you really wanted!! Kaylie loved listening to your voice! Talk soon and please send you Aunt some pictures of our visit!

    I too thought you were talking about a topless bar, which was less distracting than the thought of the actual tapas bar. I started musing about our local Tapas Restaurant and was lost in that dream for a while ... only to be shifted into thoughts of pie. :)

    I am usually the one with nieces and nephews around, if they will let me near [several start to cry when they see me, since they figure Mom and Dad are going out, and they aren't.] I am eternally fascinated with children, especially when I can see family traits and looks come out in them. I have a big supply of story books and toys that I am happy to pull out for them. I have a special spot in my heart for the ones who like my quilts.

    I'm so glad you got to get away for such an enjoyable trip! Make the most of your time before you have to get back to the books. Can't wait to hear more about your pie journey! Entering a pie contest sounds so fun!

    Can't wait to see what kind of pie you make! I swear the next time I am in California I am going to gate crash dinner at your house :) The quilt for your aunt will be so special. I have a quilt from my great grandmother - the Tahitian one - to complete too. I really hope that someday I will get to it!
