100th Post and a Giveaway

Before I get to a discussion about my 100th post, I need to make a confession...

I caved and joined the Summer Sampler Series hosted by Faith from Fresh Lemons Quilts, Katie from Swim, Bike, Quilt and Lee from Freshly Pieced.   I'm so glad I did!
Summer Sampler Series Block 1
When I think of the number 100, the first thing that pops into my head is memories of my children in Kindergarten: learning 100 site words, counting to 100 and the 100th day of school.  On that 100th day of school the students were required to bring to school a bag full of 100 items.  My older son brought in 100 tiny balls of aluminum foil that he (mostly I) had rolled up.  My younger son went a easier road and chose 100 beads that I had in a craft box - phew!

When I realized that my 100th post was rapidly approaching I remembered back to when my boys were in Kindergarten and how much I enjoyed volunteering in the classrooms, helping out the teachers and being part of a community of other Mother's (and one token Dad!) who had a shared interest in their childrens' schooling.

Blogging in the quilting community feels the same way as those Kindergarten days: a shared interest in something we care about, helping and teaching others.  For my 100th post I am giving away to you, my fellow bloggers and readers in the quilting community plus any new readers/bloggers that stop by:

Eight Fat Quarters of Riley Blake Designs Colorful Christmas Flannels

and

A 36" x 21" Panel of Petal Pushers by Pearl Louse Designs

and a few other goodies I will add at my discretion ~ because I can.

Four chances to win:

  • Leave me a comment on any Kindergarten memory.
  • Follow!  Leave a comment telling me that you are already a follower or a new one.
  • Tell the world!  Blog, Twitter or FB about this giveaway and leave a comment telling me that you did with the details.  Only one entry for this chance.
  • Listen to my podcast, The History Quilter on iTunes or Podbean and leave a relevant comment about a an episode.
The giveaway will be open until Sunday, July 17th at 2pm Pacific Time.

Good luck and thanks for stopping by,
Susan

  4. Congratulations Susan! An accomplishment for sure. I'm almost too old to remember Kindergarten. Mostly I remember painting on an easel and chasing a poor little boy named Lee around after school-- to kiss him. My mother would sit in the car and laugh. Poor child. He did buy me a necklace at Christmas.

  6. I don't know why, but my Mom (a teacher) didn't put me into kindergarten in town. Instead, several other kids my age came to our farm for kindergarten and she was our teacher. I think there were six of us (and 8 in town).

I remember the little wooden school desks all in a circle. I remember lots of cutting and glueing and coloring and learning "left and right". I remember lots of time spent outside chasing boys and being chased by boys. I think we called the game "boys-chase-girls-girls-chase-boys". We took it very seriously! Those were the day!

Thinking back, my favorite part of kindergarten was the singing. I've also especially loved having daughters in kindergarten the last two years!

  8. Lord Susan...my memory doesn't go back as far as kindergarten any more. So let me think about my kids in kindergarten...um...come on memory!!!Oh here is a good one about my sister. She came home from her first day of kindergarten with a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) bus on her head with her bus number on it. I laughed so hard at her that I made her cry. I got a serious whopping that day (after I took a picture). I still take the picture out occasionally and laugh at her (she is 25 now). It is a huge joke in the family. Well worth the whopping!!!

  10. Which podcast would you like me to comment on. Of course my favorite is the one about my area. You taught me something (not that it is difficult to do). I love your podcast! I know if were closer to each other we would be fast friends and you would make fun of my historical ignorance!

  11. Congrats! I'm a follower, and also helped out a lot in my kids' kindergarten classes. What I loved the most was getting to work with all of the little girls, since I just have boys... I think kindergarten teachers are the most amazing people!!!

  17. my strongest kindergarten memory is walking to school, maybe 6 blocks, with a neighbor boy. We went so slow the school called our homes and my dad came to look for us.

  18. They didn't have kindergarten in my town when I was that age. No, I'm not THAT ancient - it was a small town. My memory of my daughter's kindergarten was the day they had a mother's tea. I wasn't able to volunteer at all as I worked full time, so I took the afternoon off to come to the tea. She was SOOO excited to have me there!

  19. I remember being the fastest at tying shoes in kindergarten. Good thing, since I needed that skill when my mom broker her arm and my brother's shoes needed tying!
