WIP Wednesday: Stars and an Anniversary

With so much swirling around on this WIP Wednesday I've made a list:

1. Lucky Stars BOM: December Practice Block - happy with my first attempt at paper piecing.

2.  Second Year Podcast Anniversary on Friday, January 18th, 2013.  I'll be recording a podcast that day and will be embedding a special giveaway clue in the recording.

3.  QST Pinwheel Label  and binding fabric for Sea Glass Quilt - must get basting to keep on track with my January 2013 January Lovely Year of Finishes goal.

4.  Parisian Star Block for my month of Modern Blocks Bee:  Now there are seven.

5.  Student Teaching Prep:  Writing syllabi, lesson plans and unit plans to get ready for start on 1/29/13.

I'm linking up with WIP Wednesday.

Don't forget to listen to my next podcast, Episode 35 (!) where I'll be talking about Indigo and the amazing range of blues created by dying fabric with it.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

WIP Wednesday: Senior Class/Varsity Quilt

We're going back to school in today's post. Earlier today I attended my first class of the new semester:  History 401,  a class which is all about the grades  6-12 California Social Science standards which I'm pretty sure is going to kick my rear end. Actually, not pretty sure...I am sure.

Excited though - very, very excited!  I feel like a Senior about to graduate.
Here are all of my current WIP's:

Sea Glass Quilt needs to be basted, quilted and bound.

Quilt for the Younger Son:  I am going to use the Varsity pattern by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts.  The fabrics arrived today in the mail: Kona Steel, Lagoon, Turquoise, Cyan, Teal Blue, Glacier, Everglade and Forest.

Copious amounts of reading and lesson plan writing:

Pie testing:  I have officially entered into the KCRW 4th Annual Good Food Pie Contest on Saturday, September 8, 2012 being held at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).  Anybody wearing an apron to LACMA on that date will get in for free!
Caramel Custard Pie with Graham Cracker Crust...in the testing stage
I'm linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced for her WIP Wednesday feature.  It's been ages!   Thank you to Michelle of CityHouseStudio for guest hosting this week.

Now I have to go read....:)

History Quilter Podcast Episode 29 Loads of Chatter

Yesterday afternoon I pulled my microphone out of its box, fired up Audacity and started recording.  Although I chatter on for a good forty minutes you will not year any quilt history in this episode but I do have a quilt history topic already planned for Episode 30.  Episode 29 Loads of Chatter is now available on iTunes, Podbean and Stitcher Radio.

In Episode 30 I'll be talking about the history of Double Wedding Ring Quilts and as I ask in this podcast, if you have any history of your own with this type of quilt please share that here and I'll include it in my next podcast.  Have you made one?  Have you received one? If so, please e-mail me a photograph or a link to a blogpost and I'll add it to my blogpost for that episode.

Books I'm reading:
Sacrilege  by S.J. Parris. A historical thriller set in 16th century England.  Only half way through but a great read so far.

Please visit Tanesha at the Crafty Garden Mom Podcast for loads of excellent book suggestions and reviews.

What I'm working on:
Little Glam Bag for my next trip - Anna Maria Horner Good Folks in Fortune

Sea Glass Quilt Top
 Yesterday's Harvest:
Jalapenos, Zucchini, Early Girl & Roma & Yellow Pear Tomatoes

Thanks for listening!
Ciao~
