My first Quilt Along

I'm excited to be a part of my first quilt along.  Jennifer from That Girl... That Quilt is hosting and I decided to dive in.  See my first gadget?  (To clarify:  it's not mine - those who participate get to put her gadget on their blogs.)  I feel like a new mother as it took me awhile to figure out how to get it on my blog.

Bliss Charm Pack with Kona Solids

I've been holding on to this charm pack for a few weeks waiting for just the right project.  Very excited but I can just imagine needing (as apposed to wanting) to purchase more of the Bliss fabric as I already love it in the 5' Charm Pack form.

I have a ton of projects completed and lots of food photos that I need to post.  Off to make Tiramisu now for a party the family and I are attending tonight.

Ciao!

Happiness Quilt

Happiness Quilt - Front

Happiness Quilt - Back
Here is my third quilt.  Front and back is all Anna Maria Horner fabric from her Good Folks line in which I fell in love with when I first discovered quilting and fabric.  Although I now have about 10 different quilt patterns, I instead just kind of created this one organically.  I didn't really know what I was doing but just started cutting into the front fabric making different sized rectangles.  On the back I just cut up the fabric pieces I had left and tried to lay them out in a fairly symmetrical way.

The name of the quilt stems from a quilt block I made for a lovely friend who recently moved to Canada.  While I was cutting out the rectangles for the front, I made her a block out of the scraps that remained.  I called it "The Happiness Block" for her and it was the back of my memory page that I submitted into the  memory book we made for my friend.  So the name of the block translated to the quilt.  I should have taken a picture of that block because it was really cool!

My favorite part of the quilt - the binding.  This quilt is very soft and now that the weather is getting a bit cooler here, I have been using at night while watching TV.  Yes, I made this one for me.

I'm travelling to MN this morning with my father to attend the funeral of one of my aunts.  Looking forward to seeing  family, not making meals for two days, fall colors and my own hotel room.

Rug Mug

So I have seen on a few blogs especially here,  these adorable mini quilts used as rugs for mugs.  Such a funny little idea but it has stuck with me for a week or so since I first discovered them.  What a great way to teach myself to be creative and to hone my skills as a quilter.  Didn't get all crazy and actually try some free motion quilting or anything - that is for another day where I have much more time.  For a gal with very limited time, straight line quilting is the way to go.

Perhaps I shall take the plunge soon.  But for now here is my debut Mug Rug - the Christmas edition.  Fabric from the 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain.  I belong to the Christmas Block of the Month Club at the FQS and one huge benefit from receiving my block kit every month is that there is a lot of extra fabric.  I have even seen where people make two blocks out of the fabric they receive.  What a deal.

So thank you Jennifer from That Girl...That Quilt for a great inspiration!
